Açaï, an outstanding antioxydant

Acai, Euterpe oleracea, belongs to the Arecaceae family. It is a typical palm tree from the Amazon, producing a widely consumed fruit, which is rich in proanthocyanidins.

This species is native to Amazonia, but we find it also in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana and Brazil. Acai is produced in grapes. The fruit, a small, round, and black-purple is similar in appaearance and size to a blueberry.

Acai is harvested as food and is very important for populations in the Amazonian region. The juice and pulp of açaï fruits are used as juice or ice cream flavor in Brazil.
